Dragonflies have long been held in great

  respect by the Hopi and their ancestors

  and are believed to be sent by the gods

  to bring water to dried up springs and

  confer other benefits to the people.

  Their song resembles the word for water

  in Pueblo languages. They are a

  positive sign of water, fertility

  and abundance.
